Stepping Up Your Recruitment Game: The Top 5 Resolutions for 2021

This is a time when many of us are setting our sights on becoming the best version of ourselves. Whether it’s losing weight, exercising more, taking up a new hobby, or focusing on our mental wellbeing, the start of a new year presents a great opportunity to pursue a positive path forward.

That same mindset should carry into the professional world, as well. Given that employees are the lifeblood of any organization, employers would do well to focus on ensuring their talent acquisition efforts are firing on all cylinders. To that end, here are my Top 5 Recruiting Resolutions for 2021.

  1. Be proactive. The year may have changed, but we remain in an employees’ job market. The competition for top performers continues to be fierce. Employers that want to attract the attention of great candidates need to be visible and engaged, from virtual networking to being active on social media to developing a strong talent community.
  1. Create a strong employer brand. Great employees want to work for companies that have purpose. Of course, generating a profit is the ultimate goal. But organizations that show they can achieve financial success while also contributing to a better community and society will attract the best people to make that happen. It’s vital to define what makes your company stand out and use that to build your brand.
  1. Promote diversity and inclusion. Collaboration between employees from different ages, races, genders, economic and educational backgrounds, and diverse abilities will improve your company’s product or service. In the process, it will help your business grow and prosper. There was a time when promoting diversity and inclusion was a noble goal – now, it is an imperative.
  1. Enhance the candidate experience. Is it easy for candidates to access information about job opportunities in your company? Can they easily apply online and via mobile devices? Are your processes for reviewing resumes, conducting interviews and making job offers seamless and streamlined? If you can’t answer “yes” to these questions, you’re losing out on great employees.
  1. Upgrade your technology. If we’ve learned one thing during the pandemic, it’s that much can get done using technology. Be sure your HR team is fully connected with the latest tools and software. Automate what you can, and use AI and analytics to expedite processes, hire better people, and save money as you do it.

It’s rare that great candidates fall into your lap. Rather, it’s the result of paying attention to, and constantly improving, your recruiting process.
