What should companies be doing to attract diverse employees

When looking to attract diverse talent, companies should always be adjusting their recruiting, hiring and onboarding efforts and working to ensure they’re cultivating an inclusive workplace culture. When considering their own culture and mission, companies should consider the origins of their own organizational values and assess the congruency between the company’s culture and the culture in which their business operates. To help ensure your business attracts diverse talent for your business, try these actionable steps:

  • Ensure you have an inclusive recruiting process including questions being asked, the language used in job descriptions, and having diverse professionals doing the recruiting.
  • Engage with broader communities and get to know local organizations that have historically represented people of color and other diverse backgrounds.
  • When marketing open roles within your organization, ensure that the online forums through which you are sharing your job leads are those that attract broad and diverse job seekers.
  • Work to ensure you have team members who are being trained on DEI practices and who promote open dialogue about diversity, equity, and inclusion.
