The Alaant Advisor is our column focused on all things going on in the world of recruiting, job placement, and search. Think of it as your weekly briefing—a handy, quick guide to what's going on.

Here's what's happening this week:

Last Week’s Poll Results:

Q: Do you set performance goals with new hires to evaluate after their first 30, 60 & 90 days?

Yes - 75%
No - 25%

The stats we pulled from this latest survey show how important companies feel having a new hire plan is. Beyond our small sample size of almost 100 employers, creating a smooth onboarding experience makes the world of difference, and can be a strong indicator that new employees will stick around for the long haul.

Not all roles are the same of course, but if your new hire has a great experience, they are more likely to share that with friends, and former co-workers, which increases your brand value in this competitive hiring market. PLUS, it makes them feel good. Why wouldn’t you want a new hire to feel great about what they’re learning, experiencing, and doing in those formative months of your work relationship?

Giving new employees a game plan of what to expect (think college syllabus), it gives them their figurative Google Map to learning the ropes at your organization. Everything from who the power users are, to where the good coffee is hidden. When employees feel good about their experience, they’re going to ask better questions, fit in with co-workers, and be more productive in their day-to-day activities.
