+ About the Alaant Advisor
The Alaant Advisor is our column focused on all things going on in the world of recruiting, job placement, and search. Think of it as your weekly briefing—a handy, quick guide to what's going on.

Here's what's happening this week:

Q: Do you hire candidates with strong experience in lieu of a degree?

Yes – 81% & No – 19%

Requiring a degree in some fields is understandable, but it shouldn’t be universal. While degrees are important and valuable, smart and hardworking people are currently doing the job you need filled, some without the degree. How? On the job training and advancement. They have demonstrated over time that they have the aptitude, ability, and mental capacity to learn the tasks, produce results and continue to learn and grow in their professional career – just outside a typical classroom. Remember that doing things the way you’ve always done them isn’t always going to work. In an especially difficult recruiting market, here’s what HBR has to say about it, here.
