Pitch Perfect: 3 Tips for a Job Post Hit

by Monica Sweeney

First up is writing a job description that wows. This is very important as it can make or break your success in attracting the right candidates to fill the position. With baseball season in full swing, here are a few tips to get you ready to hit it out of the park when it comes to creating a successful job post.

1. Don't Strike Out with the Wrong Title.

Use keywords to draw in candidates. Match the title to the job role. Don’t try to be fancy and make it seem like something it isn’t. Make sure the description details what the entire position entails. Keep it short and sweet. It needs to be posted on social media channels and most likely will be read on a mobile device so keep this in mind. Be specific about what you’re looking for in terms of relevant experience and applicable qualifications.

2. Wind Up To Position the Company Culture

Work environment and company culture are very important to a new employee. Let them know about the perks your company has to offer, what’s the work/life balance, give them a view of the work environment (link to photos or video) and include a brief overview of the benefits package with a link to more detailed info. List any awards or industry recognition your company has received.

3. Strive to be in the Major Leagues

The job details need to be presented in a few short sentences and provide brief requirements. Use the job description as a way to convince candidates this is a job they not only want to apply for, but enthusiastically pursue because it could be a home run for furthering their career. Provide the correct contact information for your company, including the contact info of the hiring manager, so the potential employee can reach you easily.

Nailing down the details of the job description requires you work closely with the hiring manager to determine the qualifications needed and to be honest, don’t oversell, authenticity goes a long way and if your description doesn’t line up with reality, you’ll be back at home plate trying again. So don’t strike out, let us help you create a winning pitch.
